The production of salt is the firstborn in the industrial production in Tuzla, and is also one of the oldest in all Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The first saltworks in Tuzla were established during the Austro-Hungarian management of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the long past year 1885 in the town of Simin Han; after that, saltworks was established in Kreka, placed exactly in the location where the production is even now. These data serve as witness to the long lasting tradition of salt production on the locality, which is documented and stored in the Museum of saltworks dated since 1975

The transition to the vacuum - based production of salt was made by the building of existing production plants of the Saltworks Tuzla in the year 1970, with a projected capacity of 185,000 tons yearly, with the then most advanced production technology - according to the technology of the Swiss firm ESCHER-WYSS. The old production technology- boiling the water away in shallow casseroles was abandoned; the new technology enabled us to produce more, and what is very important, under far better conditions for workers.

The new factory was built using domestic finances, and for a long time to come, the surplus finance enabled us to single out significant financial means for building even new production plants, like "SODASO" Combinate (HAK I, DITA, Saltworks in Teta), as well as building the thermo-unit in Termoelektrana, Tuzla (Power Plant Tuzla). Quite large sums were set aside for the sanation of settling of areas in the town of Tuzla.

The production plants were renewed in the meantime, so that in the year 1991 a record production of 204,000 tons of salt was possible. Half of this record production was placed on the markets of Serbia and Montenegro. The pre-war period in the Saltworks was characterized by good business results, by a relatively good living standard of the workers, and by the increase of the property of the Enterprise.

At the same time with the salt production, the Enterprise started the production of food complements, the seasoning "DO - DO", the paste "Olba"for hand washing , and during the war soup cubes, beef soups, cream chowder and vegetable soups. Under war pressure we produced different medical solutions for the Clinical Centre in Tuzla.

In the year 1991 we inscribed intern shares, in which way the enterprise was privatized two laps. By paying off the intern shares the Saltworks Tuzla became a private enterprise, with a main share of private owned capital, which was confirmed in the year 1995, and by later revisions of The Agency for the Privatization of the federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, up to the final registration of Solana Tuzla, Inc.( Saltworks) as a 100% privately owned enterprise - shareholding company

Solana Tuzla, Inc.  is export-oriented company and due to issues in the country and the region, it won’t be able to achieve a considerable increase either in production or sale, without greater support through economic policy and international exchange. At the same time, there are delivery and price problems of the basic inputs, especially energy, which has unfavorable influence on achieving total business results.

During the socialist period of its existence the Enterprise went through quite a lot of legal transformations, but its longest existence, was under the aegis of the Kombinat "SODASO" as an entirety. Namely, on 11.09.1991 the Enterprise was registered in the Basic Court of United Labour Tuzla, when it was transformed from a Socialist Enterprise into a Shareholding Company with mixed capital (the number of the Register is: 1-104; the sign and number of the decision: U/I - 1801/91). The name of that time for the Enterprise was: "SODASO" Holding, SALT FACTORY, shareholding company with mixed capital with the Community of Tuzla (Shortened version of the name: "SODASO" Saltworks Tuzla, Inc ). Supplementary activity of the Enterprise, connected to foreign trade was registered in the same Court, on 27.03.1992 (sign and number of the decision: U/I-1402/92). On 30.08.1993 with the Higher Court in Tuzla a change for the person representing the Enterprise was effected (sign and number of the decision: U/T-700/93).
By that policy instead of Azderovic Safet, B.S. in technology, Muharemagic Nedim, B.S. in technology was named. A new bringing into accord of the activity of the Enterprise was effected by the Cantonal Court in Tuzla 09.09.1997 (sign and number of the register: U/I-2555/97).

The inscription of the privatization of the Enterprise, in accordance with the law, was effected with the Cantonal Court in Tuzla on the 11.06.2002 (number and date of the decision of the inscription into the Court's register: U/I-641/02; the registry number is: 1-104). According to this inscription the name of the Enterprise is: Stockholding Company Saltworks Tuzla (shortened version of the name: «Solana» d.d. Tuzla). By this registration instead of the former manager, Muharemagic Nedim, B.S. in technology, a new manager was inscribed, namely: Comic Aliosman, MSc in technology. The contractual (inscribed) capital, as well as the paid basic capital of the Enterprise is 50.627,900 KM (convertible marks) (a normal share, series "I", number of shares 506.279, the nominal value of one share: 100 KM).

Code and name for the basic activity of the Enterprise are, according to SKD; 14.400 - salt production (as table salt or industrial salt). Beside salt production, a series of other activities are also registered:
